Editor in Chief

Prof. Cezary Zieliński, DSc, PhD, Eng.

He received M.Sc./Eng. degree in control in 1982, Ph.D. degree in control and robotics in 1988 and D.Sc. (habilitation) degree also in control and robotics in 1996, all from Warsaw University of Technology (WUT), Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology (FEIT), Warsaw, Poland. In 2012 the national title of professor was conferred upon him. He is a full professor of WUT employed by the Institute of Control and Computation Engineering (ICCE).

He spent nine months in all as a visiting researcher at Mechanical Engineering Department of Loughborough University of Technology, Loughborough, United Kingdom, in  1990 and 1992, working on robot programming methods. In 1994 he was involved in a one month project management training at EMPA, Dubendorf, Switzerland. Subsequently (1994–1999) he became the managing officer of PATIA (Program in Control, Information Technology and Automatisation). In the years 1999–2001 he was employed as a senior fellow at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, where he was involved in robotics research and mechatronics education. He participated in the East Europe Research Scientists and Student Exchange and Collaboration Programme organized by the National University of Singapore (NUS). Within that Programme he spent altogether two months at NUS in 2003 and 2005 delivering seminars and doing research focused on control structures and methods of programming systems composed of mobile robots.  In the years 2004–2008 he was a Board Member in EURON II Network of Excellence within the framework of FP6. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and was an Information Officer in the Polish Section of IEEE (2002–2006).  He served as the vice-dean for Research and International Cooperation of FEIT WUT (2002–2005), deputy director for Research at the ICCE (2005–2008), and the director of this institute (2008–2016), vice-dean for General Affairs of FEIT (2016–2020). Since 2020 again he has been serving as the director of ICCE. Simultaneously he has been heading the WUT Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics. Since 2008 he has been employed part-time as a professor at the Industrial Institute for Automation and Measurements, currently integrated in Łukasiewicz Network.

Since 2007 he has been a member and was the secretary of the Committee for Automatic Control and Robotics of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Moreover in the years 2003–2007 and since 2015 he has been a member of the Forecast Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences: Poland 2000 Plus. He was a PI in over 30 research projects. In particular, he headed the Polish team within a 7th Framework Program NMP-2007-3.2-1 grant: SwarmItFIX: "Self Reconfigurable Intelligent Swarm Fixtures".  Moreover, he headed the Polish team in a 7th Framework Program FP7-ICT-2013-10 grant: RAPP – Robotic Applications for Delivering Smart User Empowering Applications”. In the years 2008–2014 he served as a member of the European Research Council Physical Sciences and Engineering review panel PE7, dealing with electrical, electronic, communication, optical, systems and robotic engineering. In 2017 he spent one month doing robotics research in Griffith University, Brisbane, Australia.

In WUT he heads the Robotics Group in ICCE working on the design of robot controllers and programming methods. His research interests focus on robotics in general and especially include: robot programming methods, robot control architectures, specification of robotic system software, multi-robot system controllers, robot kinematics, robot position-force control, visual servo control, utilisation of sensors in robot control, design of digital circuits. Currently he focuses on robotic system meta-models facilitating robot control system design. He is the author/coauthor of over 230 conference and journal papers as well as books concerned with the above mentioned research subjects. He has edited over 15 books of national and international conference proceedings. He is the editor in  chief of the scientific journal: Measurement Automation Robotics (Pomiary Automatyka Robotyka) publishing both Polish and English research papers.
